Worksafe

In line with Worksafe NZ’s practical guidance to manage health and safety risks associated with excavation work, we have processes in place to:

Avoid underground services and make sure not to undermine nearby structures – use safe digging practice and dig away from them.
Check the excavation each day before starting work and after any event that may affect its stability.
Provide safe access to get in and out.
Prevent collapse – shore, bench, or batter back. Do not assume ground will stand unsupported.
Prevent people and materials falling in – with barriers strong enough not to collapse if someone falls against them.

Regulations

We endeavour to meet our obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, the Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 2016, Codes of Practice, and any relevant Standards or Guidelines.

Our Policies

We work within clear guidelines to ensure that we:

Train all our workers to enable them to perform their duties in a safe manner
Encourage worker consultation and involvement
Actively encourage accurate and timely reporting and recording of all incidents and injuries via our custom app
Identify all existing and new hazards and take practical steps to eliminate or minimise them
Investigate all accidents and take corrective action
Promote a system of continuous improvement

Health & Safety Officer

Our team includes a Health & Safety Officer who co-ordinates and fosters a company culture that keeps Carey Earthmoving sites operating safely.

The Officer collaborates with our management and team members to ensure regulatory compliance is achieved. They are also responsible for undertaking audits, reviewing, and developing systems and strategies and working alongside our operational teams to advise on risk and best practice Health and Safety. They regularly review and update our policies and Health and Safety objectives.

Site Specific Safety Plans

We are trained and experienced in developing and working to a Site Specific Safety Plan for each project (SSSP). An SSSP is an agreement between businesses working on a site, which determines how Health and Safety will be managed, relevant site information is regularly updated and safety is monitored.
